Visit the International Coach Federation (ICF) online at www.coachfederation.org to research and see which area you would like to specialize in or stay updated with current news.
The majority of pilots today learned to fly in Cessna aircraft. Go to www.learntofly.com and type in your zip code for a list of Cessna Pilot Centers near you.
Research Requirements for Certification. Every company is different, for example, some require just a high school diploma, first aid and CPR training, or professional liability insurance. Others may require more or less from you.
Step 2
Research training programs online and select an Accredited Coach Training Program that suits your time and finances. There are three different levels of accreditation that you can achieve. The prices range from $2,000 to over $6,000.
From the list, you can find individual flight centers and visit some, or all, in order to better research and compare location and pricing information. Don’t be afraid to shop around.
Compare Prices and Programs. Accredited personal trainer certification programs can range from $300 and up, and each company offers different things with their programs. Some companies include study materials and testing in the price, some don't. Make sure you are aware of what you are paying for before committing to a program.
Step 3
Finish the ICF's credentialing program. There are plenty of credentialing options to choose from, with basic accreditation requiring a minimum of 100 hours of coaching experience, references from established clients, and a certification exam.
Once you decide on a flight school, it is time to call and make an appointment for an introductory lesson. Be sure to ask for any specials since they may not be advertised
Continuing Education. Many certification programs offer live workshops as well as home study programs. Most certifications require you to gain CEU units to keep your certification up to date. Make sure you check how many you are required to have and what the total price will be.
Step 4
Ensure that your certification stays current and you stay on top of industry standards by attending conferences and events. Each year the ICF hosts an annual conference. They also offer various events throughout the year. Certified coaches are also expected to upholding standards of morals and ethics by living a life of integrity.
Now it is time to get on board with the Flight instructor! You should be able to begin training in a certain time frame agreed upon.
What is the Duration of your Certification? Most programs (such as NASM and ACE) offer a 2 year certification period, NCSM offers a 3 year period, and NESTA offers a 4 year period. Be sure to compare costs and calculate the price of renewing your certification after 2, 3, or 4 years, as this may affect the costs in the long run.
